The largest CCUS opportunity in ESTONIA

Uusnova is a 315-hectare flat land industrial property located in North-East Estonia near to large industrial plants with significant CO2 emissions.

Uusnova project enables the largest CCUS opportunity in Estonia where the captured CO2 can be utilized or stored. The DAC system will produce more than 99% CO2 in concentrated gas state and RFNBO certified hydrogen as byproduct.

Vision statement: “To position Uusnova as Europe’s leading hub for large-scale CCUS, where advanced Direct Air Capture technology, renewable energy, and circular industrial synergies transform Estonia’s oil shale legacy into a model of sustainable, net-zero innovation.”

Mission statement: “Our mission at Uusnova is to capture and store carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere using renewable energy, transforming industrial by-products like Oil Shale Ash into long-term carbon sinks, and working with local and international partners to accelerate Estonia’s transition to a circular, net-zero economy.”

What is Uusnova?

Uusnova is a 315-hectare flat land industrial property located in North-East Estonia next to Europe’s largest oil shale processing plants and Oil Shale Ash tailings facilities.

Uusnova graph

Uusnova presents a unique and low-cost industrial sized DAC opportunity because it:

  • Is located near Estonia’s main power producing thermal and chemical plants.
  • Has plentiful of area (315 ha) available for dedicated industrial size solar IPP and to scale up DAC and circular economy based industry.
  • Has 2 operational substations located on the property which allows its easy connection to Estonia’s power grid.
  • Has low security costs - the whole area is already under Enefit Power’s fenced and 24-7 guarded zone.
  • Uusnova has already received the technical design parameters for a 20 MW Solar IPP, enabling it to apply for the 20 MW PV construction permit. The site is registered as industrial land, featuring a flat surface area with little to no vegetation.
  • Has strong support from local municipality and has no communities and no habitants near-by.
  • Is located near the Oil Shale Ash depositories which are increasing annually (OSA captures CO2)
  • Marginal capex to be spent on CO2 storage - Captured CO2 can be either stored in OSA at site or utilized by local circular economy based chemical industry

Cadastral ID Cadastral ID: 13001:001:1668, area ~315 ha

East of Uusnova property is the Narva River, which is a state border of Estonia. Estonia is a NATO member state.

Since the property is located so close the national thermal and oil plants, the associated mining areas and the national & EU border, the area is completely fenced, 24-7 guarded and has strict access policy.

Uusnova is mainly covered with low vegetation. There are no forests, lakes or rivers.

Uusnova has already received the technical design parameters for a 20 MW Solar IPP, enabling it to apply for the 20 MW PV construction permit.

Uusnova has also a mining license for its own sand resource, which can be used for earth works for the construction of future industrial planst and solar IPP.

Partners

We at A Granite OÜ welcome industrial likeminded companies. We are actively looking for DAC as well point source origin CO2 and / or hydrogen off-takers that want to establish their processing plants at our site - Uusnova.

What we can offer is low start-up cost industrial spaces, licensing and readily available access to power (both grid power as well as solar power). Contact us and we will find a solution.

Investors

For investors we can offers three investment scenarios for the project:

  • Sell Uusnova and retain minority ownership in the project with equity investment.
  • Exit the project completely by selling the property to the Solar IPP & DAC / CCUS development company.
  • Co-develop the solar + DAC / CCUS project and exit the project by selling it to an international green energy investment fund.
